James Oster chats with Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen about their latest film, Maximum Truth.
I love when a film surprises you. When you walk in not sure what to expect, yet find yourself fully engaged. That happened when I checked out Maximum Truth, a comedy about a political grifter named Rick Klingman. It features the incredibly funny Ike Barinholtz as Klingman and Dylan O’Brien as his partner in crime. And yes, it’s a bright and engaging satirical tale that reveals the ridiculousness of our current news cycle charmingly and insightfully. Directed by David Stassen, it’s worth seeking out if you want something refreshing in the recent theatrical experience. I loved this flick.
Recently, I had one of my favorite interviews with the incredible Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen. The two opened up about bringing this flick to life and what real-world inspirations came along with that. Having worked together on the excellent series, The Mindy Project, it’s nice to see these two continue their working relationship. We also had to talk about how terrific Mr. Dylan O’Brien is as Rick Klingman’s sidekick, Simon. All the performances here are excellent, and I hope people discover this gem. Funny, insightful, and one hell of an entertaining treat, seek out Maximum Truth which is now playing. And yes, that is the Maximum Truth, truly.
