‘Ant-Man,’ Minions’ Both Set for Heroic Homecoming

For week of December 8th, two summer blockbusters are arriving on Blu-ray and DVD just in time for the holidays. Ant-Man, the 12th feature film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Illumination Entertainment’s spinoff, Minions lead off the week of new releases alongside sequel, The Transporter Refueled.

From Marvel and Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Marvel’s smallest hero is coming home in many different forms. The final chapter of Marvel’s Phase Two, Ant-Man picks up after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, while delivering the origin story of one of the lesser-known superheroes. In Ant-Man, petty criminal Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) finds himself constantly in and out of prison. But is given a chance at redemption when Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) tasks him to retrieve modified Ant-Man nanotechnology after breaking into Pym’s own house.

Ant-Man will be available in a standard single-disc Blu-ray as well as a Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and Digital HD combo pack. Like Marvel’s previous installments since Thor: The Dark World, Best Buy will be offering an exclusive steelbook including the 3D combo pack.

Universal Studios is debut its lucrative Despicable Me spin-off, Minions this Tuesday. Set in 1968, Minions follows three minions, Kevin, Stuart and Bob, who globetrot around the world, looking for the most despicable master imaginable. Arriving at Villain-Con, the trio stumble across Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock), a power-hungry villainess obsessed with Queen Elizabeth II’s crown.

Minions arrives in various formats as well, including a standard Blu-ray, Digital HD combo pack. A 3D version that includes the Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy will also be available. Target, Best Buy and Walmart are offering exclusives for Minions. For the standard combo pack, there are three different covers, feature either Bob, Stuart or Kevin. Metal packaging in the shape of Stuart will also be available. Best Buy is adding a lunch bag for those who purchase the 3D or standard 2D combo packs.
