A new poster and trailer for Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween haunts the web.

There hasn’t been a new Madea film since 2013’s A Madea Chirstmas and to be 100% honest I have having a bit of withdrawal without my yearly dose of Madea on the big screen. I don’t care what anyone says about Madea because I think Perry’s creation is a fun character no matter how silly or one note it is. This particular personality launched Tyler Perry’s career and Perry has went on to make several stage plays that feature the character as well as plenty of films that for some reason critics tend to rip apart. I have always been a supporter of most of Perry’s films and find them to be enjoyable entertainment. Are they similar in story and tone? Absolutely, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t fun and entertaining.

I also love that so many journalists claim that Tyler Perry just keeps reinforcing negative black stereotypes. I am not going to say that I know everything about other journalists but I have four black brothers and grew up in Central Jersey in a very mixed race neighborhood. I have plenty of black friends who guess what, love Tyler Perry films an don’t believe they are a negative representation of their lifestyles or culture. I am open minded when it comes to films and don’t like to view any film just to criticize it. I like to try to see it for what it is and who its geared towards. I find the character of Madea to be hilarious and while some of the Tyler Perry storylines are a bit too generic; he does showcase accurate struggles of people who grew up in tough neighbors or those like himself who have gone on to become rather wealthy. You cannot deny someones past or their upbringing but I definitely feel like so many journalists attack Perry because he found something that works for him, has an audience, and generates a pretty large cash flow. To me, a Madea franchise is no different than any horror or action movie franchise. Its something that some people want, even if it isn’t everyone.

Now that I got that out of the way, I want to just say that I am super excited for this film. I think it looks like a total blast and love that the plot revolves strictly around Madea. It looks like this crazy Halloween adventure that Madea and her friends go on.
