Harrison Ford in action

“Harrison Ford Gets Some Action in The Expendables 3, Bruce Willis Gets the Boot”

by Gabriel “Big Gabe” Alcantara

Apparently, Harrison Ford is expendable. Yes, the man, the legend, Harrison Ford known for such films as Regarding Henry, K-19: The Widow Maker and Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens is attached to The Expendables 3. No, no, it’s true, I tell ya. Sylvester Stallone got all Twitter happy when he tweeted “WILLIS OUT… HARRISON FORD IN  !!!!  GREAT NEWS !!!!!  Been waiting years for this!!!!”

So with that, we know that Bruce Willis, who appeared in the previous two installments as Church, will not return to the series. Ol’ Sly may have hinted the reason for that along with some ill feelings towards the action star with a tweet that followed five minutes later: “GREEDY AND LAZY …… A SURE FORMULA FOR CAREER FAILURE”. Given that Willis has been developing a reputation for acting like a prick during recent interviews while promoting his films A Good Day to Die Hard and Red 2, I’d say that’s a clear jab at ol’ Brucie. I and the rest of the internet could be wrong about that but it would be a really funny coincidence, wouldn’t it? Whatever, I still love Bruce Willis.

Hold up, we are losing sight of what’s important here. Harrison Ford… is going to be… in Expendables 3!!! But wait, is this a good thing, really? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Expendables 1 & 2, more so part 2 and I eagerly await to see more shit get blown up, but is the 71 year-old Ford a right fit for a series that is know for heavy action and light storytelling? Sure, he’s had plenty of action-packed adventures in cinema but he’s also a very credible and somewhat prestigious actor. Isn’t a bit odd and a tad insulting that he’s slated to appear opposite a bunch of washed up, muscle bound action stars? I mean, Steven Seagal is attached to appear in the film. Can we really except that Harrison Ford will be in the same film as Steven Seagal?…. I sure as hell can!

Look, I’ll admit, it’s a bit odd that Ford would sign up for this threequel but hey, it’ll be fun seeing him in this film. No word yet on what kind of role he’ll play, the news comes from a damn tweet after all, but it would be nice to see him pick up either a shotgun or an assault rifle and pop off a few rounds after growling some bad ass one-liner. Besides, with Mel Gibson (at present time) scheduled to play the villain, it seems like the producers are looking to class up the lineup a bit. Mel Gibson is classy, right? The rest of the series regulars, such as Stallone, Jason Staham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and others are still attached as well as series newcomers Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan and Milla Jovovich. The film is being directed by Red Hill‘s (great movie, if you haven’t seen it) Patrick Hughes. Let’s hope everything goes accordingly and nothing changes that will make any of the info in this article irrelevant (God, I hate it when that happens) until the Lionsgate film opens on it’s scheduled release date,August 15, 2014.

Until then, you can get your Ford fix this year with his upcoming films Paranoia which opens August 16th and Ender’s Game on November 1st.
