It looks like we have our Mowgli for Disney’s upcoming live-action version of The Jungle Book. Walt Disney Pictures reported that newcomer Neel Sethi will play the major role in the Jon Favreau-directed picture, which is based on the popular book by Rudyard Kipling.
After a worldwide search for casting the part, ranging from the United States to New Zealand to India to Canada, Sethi was chosen for Mowgli. Sethi is a 10-year-old New Yorker.
Casting director Sarah Finn said, “Neel embodies the heart, humor, and daring of the character.”
Director Favreau added that “Neel has tremendous talent and charisma. There is a lot riding on his little shoulders and I’m confident he can handle it.”
While it is said that Sethi may be the only actor onscreen for Book, he will be joined by the voice talents of Ben Kingsley, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Idris Elba. The film is set to be released in 3D on October 9th, 2015.
