Such films as The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises are set to come out this year, among many other sequels, prequels, and remakes. But what does cinema have in store for 2013? Here is a list of sequels, prequels, and remakes that will hit the screens next year:
January 4th – The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D: The year will open with three-dimensional blood splatters as Leatherface returns to the screen.
January 11th – Scary Movie 5: This fifth entry in horror-spoofing series was originally set to release this year, but instead will deliver its laughs in January.
March 8th – Oz: The Great and Powerful: Sam Raimi and star James Franco are set to bring the land of Oz back to the big screen with this prequel to the 1939 classic.
March 27th – Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters: The second entry of Rick Riordan’s book series will bring some fantasy and adventure to the screen in late March.
April 12th – Evil Dead: Audiences will be able to revisit the demons and the cabin first made famous by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell in the 1980s.
May 3rd – Iron Man 3: Robert Downey, Jr. will once again revise his role as Tony Stark, but this time without Jon Favreau or The Avengers.
May 17th – Star Trek 2: J.J. Abrams is set to bring back Kirk, Spock, and many other Star Trek characters with this sci-fi sequel.
June 14th – Man of Steel: Director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan will bring Superman back to the screen, with new star Henry Cavill to step into that famous “S” outfit.
June 21st – Monsters University: Pixar is working on a prequel to their 2001 hit Monsters Inc., with John Goodman and Billy Crystal returning to the voice cast.
July 3rd – Despicable Me 2: The supervillian of Gru will return with this animated sequel.
July 12th – Grown Ups 2: Adam Sandler and his team of comedic friends will have another reunion for some more laughs.
July 26th – Dirty Dancing: The 1980s smash hit, which cemented Patrick Swayze as a star, will once again dance next summer.
July 26th – The Wolverine: Hugh Jackman will return with his three big claws as the famous mutant hero.
August 2nd – Red 2: Bruce Willis and some more retired agents will kick some more butt in this action sequel.
August 2nd – The Smurfs 2: The little blue people will return in early August.
November 15th – Thor 2: Chris Hemsworth will wield a hammer once again as the powerful hero Thor.
November 22nd – Catching Fire: Though The Hunger Games has not even been released yet, Suzanne Collin’s second book entry in her series is already in its beginning stages.
December 13th The Hobbit: There and Back Again: Peter Jackson’s second part to his adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy book will hit theaters right before Christmas-time.
