“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” – Review by Joseph Akers

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Review by Joseph Akers

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty stars Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig, and Adam Scott. It follows the wicked story of a daydreamer named Walter. He must embark on a journey to find a mysterious missing object that just might save his job at LIFE magazine. Whilst escaping his everyday life, he experiences what the meaning of life really means.

Mitty stars and is directed by a fantastic comedic actor and director, Ben Stiller —  in a new role for him. Yes, it has Stiller’s comedy, but also has a new adventure and a new drama element that Stiller hardly ever uses in his films. Mitty is a fresh and exhilarating directorial effort and is visually and structurally fantastic to watch.

The performances are fantastic. Stiller, Wiig and Scott are just so fantastic on screen. I liked the interaction between Stiller and Scott, especially in an elevator scene that was shot perfectly. Stiller and Wiig have a hilarious scene that involves The Curious Case of Benjamin Button… so need I say more?

Mitty has fantastic visuals. The cinematography is engaging and interesting, as Stiller uses a fresh style. The phenomenal screenplay by Steve Conrad is fun and vibrant. The moods and tones of the film are mixed well, and the mood twist halfway through the film was fantastic.

Although it’s awkward to watch Stiller run in slow motion, Mitty is a fantastic film that needs to be watched by all. It’s funny, dramatic, and adventurous all at the same time.
