The Muppets “Pig Out” Review by Kevin ‘That Movie Nerd’ Morrison

Ain’t No Party Like A Muppet Party!

This week involves the crew of Up Late going out for drinks and partying with Ed Helms, Fozzie trying to apologize for shooting Statler with a t-shirt gun (yes) and hopefully the blossoming of an office romance on The Muppets!

Mainly, this episode showed us what it’s like to hang out and have a few drinks with the Muppets and boy, was that fun! The crew of the show goes out for drinks by themselves every night without their bosses, but when Miss Piggy finds out she insists on coming along. What feels like is going to be the worst idea for them turns out to the best thing ever as Ed Helms comes to join them through his association with Miss Piggy. Seeing them party and do karaoke was a dream come true, the highlight being the Swedish Chef’s rap. I was laughing so hard, that was such a brilliant idea that makes this episode the best yet.

The B Story involves Fozzie trying to make Statler, one of the two hecklers, feel better after he accidentally sends him to the hospital-with some twisty results. This was a fine side story that again shows Fozzie as the 2nd primary character (after Kermit). It was cool to see Statler and Waldorf get into the spotlight for the bit, but unfortunately this story does become forgettable when placed against the main story. It was just THAT good!

Finally, I want to mention the best part of the whole episode to me, which was we find out Sam the Eagle has a thing for Janice! That was so funny and sweet to me that I loved every scene involving that. It was also sad to see Sam singing and trying to impress Janice (who doesn’t even look up from her phone). That section was awesome and I love seeing them come up with something for Sam the Eagle to do on this show. I really hope they keep this going! (PLEASE get them together! :D).

The show keeps getting better and better and I love what they are doing with this premise. It’s going full blast here, so if you were one of those people who weren’t impressed with the first episode, keep going. The only direction the Muppets are going is up.
Grade: A-

Fun Notes:

-Seriously, get Sam and Janice together. Loved the “I’m glad you got home last night okay!”, “How do you know?”
-Ed Helms was a great fit! This show knows its guest stars.
-Beeker’s impression of Miss Piggy was SPOT ON.

-Pepe Drunk. I rest my case.
