Daniel Rester: Life (7/10)

The sci-fi thriller Life is graced with impressive space effects and cinematography and solid performances all around. The script is derivative and has plenty of obvious dialogue, but there is still some craftsmanship to the technical aspects of the alien-on-the-hunt visuals. The film is no Alien, but it’s an entertaining genre ride with just enough thrills and chills to make it worthwhile.

Ashley Menzel: Life (5.5/10)

I love sci-fi movies more than any other genre. I was anticipating a really great sci-fi movie with Life but what I got instead was a jumbled mess of a weird horror/ sci-fi movie that really had to suspense or intrigue. It is pretty obvious and predictable with what is going to happen from the beginning. It is made even more disappointing by the high caliber actors in the film who are really lackluster and boring. There are some pretty great visuals in the film but it is not enough to save the film from being predictable and uninteresting. I really really wanted to like the film, but Life is just too dull.

Scott Menzel: Life (5/10)

Life is a wannabe Alien clone that is short enough to give it a slight pass as a decent creature feature. The main problem with the film is the lack of character development. There are only six characters, but the script gives the audience very little background on anyone. Life looks great and has a great cast, but sadly the script and director don’t really use any of that to their advantage. The first half of the film has a certain degree of tension, but by the time, it hits the halfway mark most of that is gone. I found myself somewhat curious yet slightly bored as to where the film was going. The film’s lame and the predictable ending left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I think there was potential for Life, but the film just gave up about midway through. Life was sadly a disappointing film and one that won’t be remembered in the months to come.
