We Live Entertainment to Launch We Live Awards With Additional Staff

We Live Entertainment Announces Awards Division, We Live Awards

Karen M. Peterson Appointed Awards Editor

(LOS ANGELES, CA — September 02, 2020) — We Live Entertainment today announced its newest division, We Live Awards. Karen M. Peterson will help launch the division as Awards Editor.

We Live Awards will begin featuring predictions and coverage of the awards season leading up to the 93rd Academy Awards in April. Coverage will include fall festivals, precursor awards from guilds and associations, and spotlights on categories, contenders, and nominees. The division will also highlight the many contributions of underrepresented filmmakers, past and present.

Karen M. Peterson began her career in entertainment journalism at Awards Circuit. During her time in the industry, she has become a passionate advocate for female filmmakers and greater recognition of the artisans and craftsmen who work tirelessly behind the scenes.

When Awards Circuit shuttered last month, We Live Entertainment editor-in-chief Scott Menzel saw an opportunity to fulfill a long time goal of expanding film and television coverage into the exciting world of awards season.

“As someone who has been part of this industry for nearly 20 years, my love and passion for awards season has been something that I’ve wanted to cover for a while. In the past, We Live Entertainment has dabbled in covering awards season but never to the degree of which I ultimately wanted to. With Karen joining the team as Awards Editor, I believe now is the perfect time to launch this new division of the site and am beyond excited to be covering all aspects of awards season,” notes Menzel.

“I’m very excited to join the We Live Entertainment team,” said Peterson. “I love the work that has been done here and am looking forward to adding a new dynamic and perspective as we expand in this new direction.”

In addition to launching We Live Awards, We Live Entertainment staff writer Aaron Neuwirth will be promoted to Senior Film & TV Editor. Aaron has worked hard in continually posting reviews and articles regularly, even as the film calendar took a sharp turn in 2020, in addition to his help in editing his fellow writer’s posts behind the scenes.

“Scott’s ambitions have provided great opportunities for me professionally,” said Neuwirth. “I’m excited to take on an increased role as We Live Entertainment’s Senior Editor, as he continues to push his efforts even further.”

Several newcomers are also joining the We Live Entertainment family. The site welcomes Jami Philbrick (Mtime), James Oster (JoBlo), Adriana Gomez-Weston (The Cinema Soloist), Chike Coleman (Urbana Public Television), and Staci Layne Wilson (Women in Horror), along with former Awards Circuit writers Joseph Braverman, Alan French, LV Taylor, and Audrey Fox.

“2020 has been a year of unexpected change for the entertainment industry but one that is open to a whole new world of possibilities and opportunities. As the industry continues to explore new ways to adjust to ‘the new normal’ by embracing virtual events such as junkets and screenings, We Live Entertainment is excited to be along for the ride. This year has proven to be unexpected, but outlets must be willing to adjust to the change, and We Live Entertainment isn’t afraid of growing and changing to fit the moment,” says Menzel.

Founded in 2011, We Live Entertainment has grown to become a trusted name in independent entertainment analysis and critique. We Live Awards will continue to bring that high level of quality to year-round awards analysis.

Born in New Jersey, Scott Menzel has been watching film and television since he was three years old. Growing up, he watched as many movies as he could and was highly influenced by the films of Tim Burton, John Hughes, Robert Zemeckis, and Steven Spielberg. Scott has an Associate's Degree in Marketing, a Bachelor's in Mass Media, Communications, and a Master's in Electronic Media. He has been writing film reviews under the alias of MovieManMenzel since 2003 and started his writing career as a contributing critic at IMDB.com and Joblo.com. In 2009, Scott launched MovieManMenzel.com where he posted several of his film reviews but in 2011 decided to shut down the site when he launched We Live Film.com. In 2015, We Live Film became We Live Entertainment. The domain name change occurred after months of debate but was done so that he and his fellow staff members could write about anything and everything in the world of entertainment.
