Enemies Unite in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” Super Bowl Sizzle Reel

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" (2014) - "Enemies Unite" Sizzle Reel

by Matt Marshall

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is less than three months away from hitting theaters. After December’s teaser trailer, audiences were left with plenty of unanswered questions – mainly Jamie Foxx’s Electro.

Sony released a second trailer (dubbed “Enemies Unite”) for the superhero sequel Sunday night during Super Bowl XLVIII. As the title blatantly suggests, the sizzle reel sheds more light on the film’s trio of baddies. Clocking in at a hefty 3:50 run time, the sizzle reel spends more time on the villains than Spider-Man himself.

The last trailer kept Electro’s origins and agenda under wraps. But this time around, Foxx is introduced as a no-name from Oscorp, who bumps into Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). Foxx is quickly bitten by some hero worship for the webslinger, but that turns south after a freak accident. Once called Spidey’s “eyes and ears,” the superhero forgets his name going as far as calling him “Sparkles” in a pivotal Times Square showdown. That of course doesn’t set well with Electro.

Glimpses of Spider-Man’s other two adversaries, Rhino and Green Goblin are shown throughout the trailer, but the sizzle reel surely belongs to Electro.

The trailer’s not all dark and dreary. Andrew Garfield shows off his comedic side in two exchanges with Aunt May (Sally Field) to bookend the trailer. The “laundry sheriff” moment kicking off the trailer was already part of last year’s sizzle reel at Comic-Con.

Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) also make small appearances. However, it’s nothing beyond what was seen in the teaser.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings onto the big screen May 2. The full trailer is available down below via Sony Pictures.
