With just two weeks left until Christmas, several new home media stocking stuffers hit shelves this Tuesday. The one on many young audiences’ wish lists is Despicable Me 2 starring Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig and of course, the minions. In addition to Despicable Me 2, Fast & Furious 6 and Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Edition also arrive this week on Blu-ray.
Despicable Me 2 picks up where the 2010 animated hit left off. Ex-supervillain Gru (Carell) has turned over a new leaf as a loving father to Margo, Edith and Agnes. But he soon finds himself recruited by a high-strung spy (Wiig) to take down a new baddie in town.
Universal Studios is releasing the $367 million blockbuster in various formats and retailer exclusives. The standard version available is a Blu-ray, DVD, UltraViolet combo pack. Putting aside their differences from the last movie, they join forces to bring down mercenaries led by Luke Evans.
The standard combo pack from Universal consists of a Blu-ray, DVD and UltraViolet digital copy. Two versions of Fast & Furious 6 are available on the Blu-ray include a 131-minute Extended Edition. Several retailers are offering a limited edition steelbook packaging. Walmart’s steelbook includes 30 minutes of bonus footage on Vudu. Two steelbook versions are available at Best Buy. The first has the same artwork as the other retailers, while the second is yellow matching an exclusive re-release of films 1-5.
Universal will be donating a portion of the Fast & Furious 6 sales to Paul Walker’s Reach Out Worldwide. Walker passed away on November 30 after a traffic collision in California.
