by Matt Marshall

For the week of May 20, The Monuments Men makes it way to Blu-ray this Tuesday. The World War II ensemble piece is the first of five major releases. Also set for release this week are 3 Days to Kill, Vampire Academy, Pompeii and About Last Night.

Originally set for a December 2013 release, The Monuments Men quickly left awards season for a new February date. At the helm, George Clooney assumes multiple roles as director, producer, writer and actor. In the film, Clooney plays Frank Stokes, tasked with regaining stolen art from the Nazis. He’s not alone though. With an ensemble of John Goodman, Matt Damon, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Bill Murray and Hugh Bonneville, they cross Europe to preserve history.

Sony Home Entertainment is releasing The Monuments Men this Tuesday as a Blu-ray, DVD, UltraViolet combo pack. The set includes several featurettes and deleted scenes.

20th Century Fox debuts Kevin Costner’s highly panned 3 Days to Kill this week. In 3 Days to Kill, Costner is a dying Secret Service Agent recruited for one final mission abroad. In addition to this deadly assignment, Costner attempts to reunite with his estranged daughter (Hailee Steinfeld).

3 Days to Kill was negatively received on We Live Film. Matt Marshall found this film “splintered in countless directions with ample ambition.” Fox is packaging the film as a Blu-ray, DVD, UltraViolet combo pack.

Next up this week from Starz/Anchor Bay comes the first installment of the young adult series Vampire Academy. Vampire Academy is based on the best-selling book series of the same name.

At St. Vladmir’s Academy, a feisty Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch) is the protector/ best friend of vampire princess, Lissa (Lucy Fry). The two are caught up in plenty of high school drama plus a larger plot. Vampire Academy is being released as a Blu-ray, UltraViolet combo pack.

Vesuvius, a slave on his way home ends up in the arena to fight. But the games aren’t the only danger in Pompeii.

Pompeii is available Tuesday in two formats. The standard edition is a Blu-ray, UltraViolet combo pack. The other features a 3D copy of the film with the standard Blu-ray and UltraViolet.

The final release is Steve Pink’s romantic comedy, About Last Night. About Last Night stars Kevin Hart, Joy Bryant, Regina Hall and Michael Ealy and is a modern remake of the 1986 film of the same name. Two couples finds love for the first time starting from the bar to bed. Sony is releasing the film as a Blu-ray, UltraViolet combo pack.
