The Enterprise crew is back in the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond.
The recently released first trailer for Star Trek Beyond shows the popular film franchise taking things to the extreme. The third installment in the rebooted Star Trek series comes from director Justin Lin, who is best known for helming four Fast & Furious films, and he seems to be bringing the same non-stop action that made that franchise so successful to Star Trek. See it for yourself below:
“Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys plays throughout the trailer, adding to its already high energy. The plot of the film looks like it will follow the crew of the USS Enterprise as they attempt to survive on a new planet after once again destroying their ship.
Despite earning mostly positive reviews from critics, die-hard Trekkies were disappointed the franchise’s last outing, Star Trek Into Darkness, so hopefully Beyond will get fans back on board.
Returning cast members include Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott, Jon Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, while Idris Elba (Pacific Rim) and Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service) are newcomers.
Instead of directing Beyond, as he did with 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams only served as a producer, due to his busy schedule on another major film set in outer space. Simon Pegg, Doug Jung, Roberto Orci, John D. Payne and Patrick McKay have all scripted the film, which is set for release on July 22, 2016.
