Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Studios debuted the teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy late Tuesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Guardians of the Galaxy is the tenth film of the financially successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is also the final film of Phase Two before next year’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron due out next summer.
Guardians expands the MCU to new levels with a new group of space heroes, calling themselves none other than the Guardians of the Galaxy. Chris Pratt stars as Peter Quill aka Star Lord, who’s a modern-day Han Solo. Teaming up with Star Lord are green-skinned Gamora (Avatar’s Zoe Saldana) and bulky behemoth Drax (WWE superstar Dave Bautista). Vin Diesel assumes the role of Groot, a tree-like being. Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) voices Rocket, a genetically altered raccoon with an expert shot.
For audiences unfamiliar with this recent addition to the Marvel Universe. the trailer does offer insight on all members of the Guardians during their incarceration. The trailer has no problems keeping the plot under wraps, but there’s sure to be a theatrical trailer in the coming months.
Even with a brand new cast of characters, Guardians does have ties to previous MCU films. Benicio del Toro’s The Collector is briefly seen in the trailer. Those who stayed for the post-credit scenes during Thor: The Dark World should immediately recognize his signature flair.
Will Guardians of the Galaxy live up to the rest of the successful MCU franchise? Find out as Guardians of the Galaxy blasts onto the big screen Aug. 1. The full trailer is available down below:
