Role Call: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Robert Pattinson Find New Gigs

Arnold Schwarzenegger gets furious with Michael Fassbender, Robert Pattinson sees sirens, and Michael C. Hall is back on TV… here are my two cents on some of the Role Call news of the week:

Arnold Schwarzenegger Teams Up with Michael Fassbender

Schwarzenegger and Fassbender are set to star in Kung Fury, a feature film based on a short film that went viral in 2015. It was set in Miami in the ’80s and introduced “the greatest damn cop of all time” named Kung Fury, who assembled an elite police force known as Thundercops. Their main mission was to defeat Adolf Hitler, the master “Kung Furher” villain. No joke… check it out here.

In this sequel of sorts, Fassbender stars as Kung Fury, who not only has to defeat Hitler with his Thundercops, but also a mysterious new villain helping the Nazi leader, all of which sends Kung Fury and the Thundercops on a journey through space and time itself. Fassy, dearest, what the hell? Directed by the original short’s David Sandberg (but backed by the IT producers), this will either be “the greatest damn thing ever” – or not. (via Collider)

Robert Pattinson Swims Into New Fantasy Horror Flick

This sounds a little more up my alley. Pattinson has signed on to star with Willem Dafoe in The Lighthouse, which is a fantasy tale about sea-faring myths that will definitely skew more towards the horror. It’s coming from The Witch director Robert Eggers, so I already assume the scary bits will be more subtle in nature. Still, will there be man-eating sirens and evil mermaids? One can only hope. Bradley Whitford Enters Season 2 of ‘A Handsmaid Tale’

Hot off his turn in Get Out, Whitford is signing up for another twisted look at society by joining Season 2 of Hulu’s Emmy-winning A Handmaid’s Tale. He’ll be playing Commander Joseph Lawrence, a gruff, intimidating man with a sly sense of humor who’s the chief architect of Gilead’s economy. No doubt handmaid Offred, real name June (Elisabeth Moss), will have a run-in – or two – with this guy. Shiver. That first season of Handmaid’s Tale slayed me, so while I’m excited for Season 2, I’m also a little nervous. (via TVLine)

Alfre Woodard Plays Cookie’s Mom in ‘Empire’

Oh yeah, there’s some definite symmetry to this casting. Woodard is joining the cast of the hit FOX show Empire, playing Renee, the estranged mother of Cookie Lyon, portrayed by the fierce Taraji P. Henson. Apparently, Cookie’s mom is just as tough as her daughter, which makes sense since fruit rarely falls far from the tree. The Emmy-winning Woodard will appear on a recurring basis during the second half of Empire‘s current fourth season, which resumes on Wednesday, March 28. (via TVLine)

Michael C. Hall Returns to the Small Screen

Finally, we’ve got some great news. Michael C. Hall, who I loved so much in Showtime’s Dexter, is starring in a new Netflix series called Safe. The eight-part-series is based on mystery novels by Harlan Coben and centers on a widower (Hall), who becomes a single dad to two teenage daughters. After one of his daughters mysteriously disappears from their gated community after sneaking out to a party, rumors and secrets begin to surface. Safe is set to premiere some time this year on Netflix. (via TVOverMind)
