If you watch Speechless tonight, you will probably become captivated by the performance of Micah Fowler. He plays JJ Dimeo, a special needs teenager who cannot speak but manages to communicate everything with the help of his supportive family. You may have also seen Fowler in the movie Labor Day.
In real life, Fowler has cerebral palsy, and he can speak, though it takes him a bit of time to do so. I had the opportunity to meet Fowler at the ABC party for the Television Critics Association, and he was gracious enough to take the time to answer some of my questions. Speechless airs Wednesdays nights at 8:30 on ABC.
