5 Reasons “Stranger Things” is Just What We Needed
1. Nostalgic Throwback
Between the soundtrack, clothing and technology found in the show, we can’t help but channel those wonderful films and shows from the 80s that ignited our passion in sci-fi mixed with coming of age. The show takes a look back at a much simpler time and for that, we LOVE it. Not only does it have the nostalgia of the 80s, but also that excitement that reignited our interest in science fiction. The show seems highly inspired by a lot of great classic films from the 80s including E.T., The Goonies, and Stand by Me among others.
2. Winona Ryder and David Harbour
While every performance in the show is great, the performances by Winona Ryder as desperate mother, Joyce Byers and the performance by David Harbour as Jim Hopper stand out among the adults. Their performances are layered with emotional depth and we learn something new about their characters in each episode.
3. Features Child Actors
Child actors can make or break a show, but the kids in Stranger Things are amazing. They play their characters to perfection and really portray the characters we would imagine as ourselves if we were in those roles. Their emotions are real and they inspire us to continue searching when everyone else thinks that all hope is lost.
4. Soundtrack
The soundtrack is stellar. S U R V I V E is the Texas band behind the music. The music with the sweet synth is just the icing on the cake. It works perfectly to tie together every element in this show with a beautiful bow.
5. The Girls are Kicking Ass
It is a great time to have a show that features strong women. Eleven is a kick ass telepathic girl who defends her friends with conviction. Joyce Byers, a desperate mother will stop at nothing to get her son back. She will not take no for an answer. She has no problem charging into the woods or a government facility, all in search of her son. Nancy Wheeler, while first portrayed as the helpless damsel, is now determined and strong willed. She will not let a boyfriend or relationship define her. There is a serious lack of shows like this that portray women in such a positive manner. We need more women like the women in Stranger Tales in our entertainment.
Stranger Fiction is now streaming all 8 episodes of the first season on Netflix and has already been confirmed for a Season 2!
