Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Prepares for War in Second Trailer
“Apes…together…strong” says Andy Serkis’ Caesar in the latest trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Unlike the teaser released this past December, this second trailer from Fox hammers home what to expect come its July release date.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes continues the storyline from the 2011 hit, shifting the story a decade into the future. Both man and ape survive the aftermath of the Simian flu. But the landscape has changed drastically since the human-heavy Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Caesar is now a leader among apes with more dialogue in two minutes of trailer than the entire previous film. He’s evolved greatly from his time under James Franco’s care in the first film. But we knew after the tease at the end of Rise, he was destined for something much greater.

Everything’s fine in Caesar’s camp until Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and his human followers draw out guns in the middle of the woods. That pieced with his “I want to speak with Caesar” line from the teaser hints at the looming species warfare.
Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) is shown in a few more scenes than the teaser. And he’s certainly taken an emotional beating over the years. Oldman’s been a solid performer in many other franchises. He looks confident to continue that streak here in Dawn.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is looking more and more to be one of the giant attractions this summer. Under Matt Reeves’ direction, the film is already bigger, bolder and darker than its predecessor.
