The Place Beyond the Pines actor Ben Mendelsohn is circling a role in the upcoming Lucasfilm and Disney Star Wars spinoff film Star Wars: Rogue One.

Just this month, Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) was confirmed to be starring as the female lead in the film. While Disney has not yet commented on Mendelsohn’s involvement with the film, there is a very high chance he will end up joining Jones.

Godzilla director Gareth Edwards is officially set to helm the project with a screenplay written by Cinderella and The Golden Compass screenwriter Chris Weitz.

While Ben Mendelsohn may not be a household name, for years he has turned in excellent performances in both films and TV shows.

On top of giving a very memorable performance during his limited screen time in The Place Beyond the Pines, the actor has also worked on such films as Knowing, The Dark Knight Rises and Killing Them Softly. From Brad Pitt to Ryan Gosling to Christian Bale, Mendelsohn has been able to hold his own while sharing the screen with some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

As of recent, the actor has been getting recognized more and more for his work. This year he starred in the Sundance film Mississippi Grind alongside Ryan Reynolds and Sienna Miller, as well as the film Slow West with Michael Fassbender and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

He has also been earning rave reviews for his new show Bloodline, which was released on Netflix just this Friday. In a show where the cast includes such actors as Kyle Chandler, Linda Cardellini and Sissy Spacek, critics say Mendelsohn is a definite standout.

Kathleen Kennedy and Tony To will produce the project, which will begin production this summer in London.

Star Wars: Rogue One will be hitting theaters on December 16, 2016.
