‘La La Land’ Goes Even Bigger in IMAX Release
Coming off a clean sweep at the 74th Golden Globes Awards, La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone is set for a limited IMAX release starting January 13th.
Director Damien Chazelle is excited for the release according to IMAX.com. “The beautiful presentation of La La Land in IMAX took my breath away. I cannot wait for audiences to see the work of all the talented crafts-people who helped bring this story to life — the music, sound, production design, costumes, performances — everything explodes in IMAX.”
So far, La La Land has grossed over $51 million domestically, and is expected to soar even higher throughout awards season. Word-of-mouth continues to spread for La La Land as it is now playing in over 1,500 locations nationwide. The upcoming IMAX release will raise those numbers for the coming weekend.
At last night’s Golden Globes, the film made history taking home 7 awards, surpassing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Midnight Express. La La Land claimed the top prize, winning Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. Damien Chazelle won for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Gosling and Stone won for their respective acting categories. Justin Hurwitz score a victory in the Best Original Score category. While, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul took home Best Original Song for “City of Stars.”

La La Land follows Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a struggling jazz musician, who fatefully meet in bright lights, big city environment that is Los Angeles. Damien Chazelle of Whiplash fame directs the musical. La La Land also stars John Legend, Rosemarie Dewitt and J.K. Simmons.
