Ashley Menzel: Deepwater Horizon (8/10)
DWH is a thrilling story that it delivered with near perfection. The film provides all the details you need to know about the operation of an oil rig in a very short amount of time and in a really interesting way. Mark Wahlberg gives a great performance as well as the rest of the cast.
Nick Casaletto: Deepwater Horizon (9/10)
Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg deliver a rare treat that is both an emotional and tense roller coaster. The action is well shot, beautifully filmed and fully realized. The report between characters felt genuine and authentic which made you fall into the story that much more. John Malkovich and Kurt Russel give terrific supporting performances that are a treat to watch. One of the better films this year and certainly the most surprising.
Daniel Rester: Deepwater Horizon (8/10)
As a disaster film, “Deepwater Horizon” is aces. The visual effects and sound design are impeccable, while Peter Berg uses a brisk pace after establishing a few likable characters to root for. Mark Wahlberg and Kurt Russell are also excellent here, often delivering a lot with just facial expressions. While I enjoyed the film a lot, I wish it dived into the complexities of the aftermath of the situation a bit more. While not super memorable, the film is still a thrilling ride.
