Austin Putnam: The Conjuring 2: (9/10)
This is a horror sequel that manages to stand out from the rest of the pack. Even though it’s not quite as terrifying as the first Conjuring, Conjuring 2 is nonetheless scary as hell. James Wan continues to prove that he is one of the few film makers that knows how to do the horror genre right.

Tony Estrada: The Conjuring 2 (7.5/10)
A solid horror sequel that still delivers on what made The Conjuring such a great horror movie which are creepy moments, memorable characters, beautiful production design, and The Warrens of course. James Wan understands the horror genre so well and movies like The Conjuring movies and Insidious movies show why this man has a talent for this genre. The cinematography looks gorgeous which sets the tone and atmosphere of the film very well and there are filmmaking techniques that James Wan used throughout the film to really make you feel like you are in this scary environment with these characters. There are flaws such as having some of the familiar beat of the 2013 film, a few horror cliches that didn’t feel needed, and the feature feeling repetitive such as having a jump scare then taking a break then adding another jump score, etc. The Conjuring 2 is a solid horror sequel with great performances, beautiful direction, a dark atmosphere, a haunting score, and creepy moments throughout the film that really stick with me.
Daniel Rester: The Conjuring 2 (8.5/10)
James Wan proves himself as a modern horror expert again with “The Conjuring 2,” a rare example of a sequel I actually enjoy more than the original. The film uses a lot of old tricks and set ups, but it’s the way Wan and team approach the genre material that shines. The film is too long and the third act becomes somewhat ridiculous, but those are my only major gripes. The cinematography, production design, and acting here are all first-rate, with Madison Wolfe standing out in the cast as Janet. This one really surprised me.

Chad Gleason: The Conjuring 2: (6.9/10)
As someone who did not like the first film at all, this one I felt was decent, watchable and interesting enough to get through it. It should never be over two hours. It wasn’t scary at all but there were some really cool creepy demon stuff and I love that things moved around and that the children weren’t the only people to see those things. I also wish this film did not say that it was based on a true story. Even if it, is I’m tired of that when it comes to my horror movies. Just don’t put “based on a true story” and then make up whatever you want as long as you give us compelling characters and interesting story. I like the actors who play the Warrens but I don’t like the Warrens themselves as characters in this film. I would’ve rather just seen the story in England and not the story in America. I hope James Wan is done with this franchise and moves on to do something else even though I felt like he made a watchable movie this time. Surprisingly his best film is an action movie, therefore he should make more action movies instead of horror films in my opinion.
Bryan Sudfield: The Conjuring 2 (8/10)
As someone who isn’t a horror film fan at all, I was blown away by the first Conjuring. The sequel is no exception. I had a great time and it really got under my skin. James Wan is the best mainstream horror filmmaker we have working today and there are a lot of amazing long takes in this film. The jump scares also grasped me, which is surprising because they are overused in all horror films. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga jump back into their roles as the Warrens & they shine once again. But, the standout was Madison Wolfe, who was PERFECT as Janet. I felt for her character and she really got to me. My only flaw was the pacing, as the film could’ve been maybe 15 minutes shorter. Nonetheless, this is a great sequel and I wasn’t let down whatsoever.
