The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Post Credits to Feature X-Men: Days of Future Past

According to Empire Online, it has been confirmed by Sony that a clip from the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past will be shown after the end credits roll on The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This is unusual because not only do previews usually come before the film, but because the rights of X-Men and Spider-Man are owned by separate studios. While they’re both Marvel properties, Fox retains the rights to all X-Men characters whereas Sony is in control of all things Spider-Man. This has been the main hurdle preventing possible crossovers between the Spider-Man/X-Men/Avengers universes, since any massive “team-up” film would result in a split of profits between three major studios.
This isn’t new, however, as many rival companies have teamed up in the past to promote upcoming blockbusters. A great example of this is when Paramount released Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol back in 2011. Paramount allowed Warner Bros. to put the prologue for The Dark Knight Rises in front of IMAX prints of the film. Something like that was mutually beneficial, and presumably this would be, too.
