For the past decade in addition to countless superhero films and sequels, studios have been looking for books to adapt into feature length films. The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Twilight, and Hunger Games are only a few of the recent book to screen adaptations that have made box office gold. In addition to book adaptations, studios have also been on the lookout for religious themed scripts that they can make into a feature length film with a relatively small budget of $5 to $15 million. Miracles From Heaven is a rare find for Sony because it is a book adaptation but also deals with religion. This combination will probably result in a pretty decent theatrical run for the studio and some extra green for Sony.

Miracles from Heaven is based on the book, Three Miracles From Heaven by Christy Beam. The film tells the incredible true story of the Beam family. When Christy played by Jennifer Garner discovers that her 10-year-old daughter Anna (Kylie Rogers) has a rare, incurable disease, she becomes a ferocious advocate for her daughter’s healing as she searches for a solution. After Anna has a freak accident and falls three stories, a miracle unfolds in the wake of her dramatic rescue that leaves medical specialists mystified, her family restored and their community inspired.

If you are a fan of religious films such as Heaven in For Real, I think you will be sold on this film after you check out the trailer. Personally, I am not a fan of these faith based films and even though this is a pretty remarkable true story, I was immediately turned off by how religious the trailer got so quickly. Don’t get me wrong, this film doesn’t look as bad as say God’s Not Dead 2, but it does look like a film that already has a targeted audience in mind and that surely isn’t me.
