March 9, 2012 was the official day 1 of SXSW 2012 and We Live Film was there. MovieManMenzel (Scott Menzel), Matt – The Movie Analyst, and Laurie Coker all came together and started to cover this huge event that takes place over a series of 10 days. Here is a brief recap of what happened on Day One:
10:00am – Went to the Austin Convention Center to pick up our passes for “The Cabin in the Woods” and “The Babymakers”
11:00am – Had breakfast/lunch at the Café Crêpe, which was amazing as usual.
3:30pm – The “Don’t forget me” panel was our first stop. While Menzel didn’t seem to remember anything from the panel, probably because of the Long Island Ice Tea that he had less than 30 minutes before, Laurie and Matt seemed to learn a lot of neat skills to remember things. Maybe they can teach Menzel when he is a little less tipsy.
5:30pm – “The Cabin in the Woods” red carpet. While We Live Film wasn’t able to obtain full interviews on the red carpet, we were able to photograph the red carpet event as the stars arrived. 7:10pm – “The Cabin in the Woods” begins as the opening night film of SXSW 2012, but not without a quick introduction by SXSW’s Janet Pierson along with Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon getting the audience all pumped for what they are about to see. Does it live up to all the hype? Stay tuned as we will have a video review up shortly and hopefully some written reviews later in the week.
8:55pm – ” The Cabin in the Woods” cast and crew take stage at the Paramount Theater as they begin to do a Q&A for the film. The reception was amazing as most people in the theater seemed to absolutely adore the film.
10:05pm – Jay Chandrasekhar and Kevin Heffernan took to the stage to promote “The Babymakers.” The duo made a joke about getting a one bed room and did a beer chugging contest to see who gets the bed and who gets the floor.
11:40pm – “The Babymakers” ended and since none of us really cared for the film, we decided to just take a short walk around Austin and head back to the room.
