Constructing Firestorm
Dr. Stein is in medical danger and the only thing that will fix him is returning as Firestorm. Only problem is, his partner Ronnie is dead and he needs another metahuman to merge with to do so.
Here, we get to explore more about the metahumans in Central City and we are introduced to Jefferson “Jax” Jackson and Henry Hewitt. Jax has a trick knee from the explosion 2 years ago and is brought into to try and become Firestorm, while Hewitt has some powers that I will not spoil here. It feels very much like what made Season 1 so great, but we continue in not only introducing characters like these, which should just be throw away characters but developing them as well and making them able to return in future episodes. Jax’s dreams of playing football were destroyed after the explosion and he is carrying those crushed dreams with him every day and Hewitt is a scientist with some anger issues. They are good characters and have dimensions all there only, very impressive for a superhero show like this.
Continuing from last week, Iris meets her long-lost mother-and asks her to stay away. Problem is, Francine reveals that she is dying, making things complicated between her, Iris and Joe West. Joe West is a phenomenal character, being the wise man that teaches Barry and Iris and after almost a whole season of teaching Barry, we get him teaching his daughter in similar fashions. Instead of Barry’s dad, it is Iris’s mom that is the subject matter and it’s great to see Iris develop in similar ways that Barry did. I like what they have to offer in this show.
On top of all this, there are a few surprises that will definitely be explored in future episodes (welcome back, Harrison Wells!) and the same great characters are being great, particularly Barry and Patty. Even Dr. Snow and Cisco are growing on me and becoming better characters instead of the annoying comic relief. I like that this show can make me invested in side characters like Dr. Stein so much that they can make a whole episode about him and I feel it’s a great one. And that’s what this is: another great Flash episode.
Grade: A-

-Well Hello King Shark! Great to have a show where you can be done!
