With the glaring exception of merchandise-heavy Cars 2, the Pixar brand has captured the hearts of young and old for nearly two decades. The studio’s latest prequel-sequel, Monsters University carried on that tradition this past summer and is now available on home media. Joining Monsters University this week on Blu-ray are Cars 3D, R.I.P.D. and Byzantium.

Monsters University rewinds the clocks back on Monsters, Inc. to the college years of Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sulley (John Goodman). The future scare pair get off to a rocky start. Mike isn’t taken seriously as a scarer by his professors or classmates. Sulley on the other hand, feels no need to apply himself, believing his success comes strictly from his family’s name.

Buena Vista Home Entertainment is releasing three versions of Monsters University to purchase. Consumers can select the standard Blu-ray, DVD combo pack. There is also a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy combo pack available as well as a 3D version with the same features. Target’s 3-disc version includes the exclusive “College Days.” Walmart is offering two standard combo packs that will either include a Mike Disney Infinity figure or Randy Disney Infinity figure.

In addition to Monsters University, Buena Vista is re-releasing Cars on Blu-ray. This version marks the 3D debut of the 2006 film. Labeled the “Ultimate Collector’s Edtion,” Cars 3D includes a Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy of the film. A Bug’s Life and The Incredibles stand as the only two Pixar films without 3D Blu-ray releases.

R.I.P.D. starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds makes its way to Blu-ray from Universal Studios. Bridges and Reynolds join forces in this supernatural comedy as dead cops who patrol the afterlife. R.I.P.D. is available as a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy, UltraViolet combo pack as well as a 3D version.

Last up this week is Byzantium from IFC Films. Byzantium stars Gemma Arterton (Runner Runner) and Saoirse Ronan (The Host) as a mother-daughter vampire duo hiding at an English hotel of the same name. Byzantium is released as a single Blu-ray disc.
