Nicole Kidman in Talks to Join Gal Gadot in DC’s Wonder Woman
Following Chris Pine’s confirmation that he will play Steve Trevor in DC’s upcoming Wonder Woman, The Wrap reports that Nicole Kidman is in talks to join the cast of the film. According to the site, the Oscar winner’s role will be as a “high-ranking Amazonian warrior.”
As of now, Pine and Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, are the only two actors on board the project. Patty Jenkins, who helmed 2003’s Monster, will direct with a script from Pan writer Jason Fuchs. Jenkins certainly is familiar with superhero films, as she nearly directed Thor: The Dark World for Marvel, before she dropped out and the job went to Alan Taylor.
The exact character from the comics that Kidman will be portraying in the film has not been officially announced yet, but some have already guessed that she’ll be appearing as Hippolyta, the Queen of the Amazons. On top of being a strong and powerful leader, Hippolyta also happens to be Diana Prince’s mother in the comics.
It’s easy to forget that Kidman shared the screen with another superhero, Batman, years ago in Batman Forever, in which she played Dr. Chase Meridian. Since then, the actress has gone on to star in such critically acclaimed films as Moulin Rouge!, The Others, The Hours and Rabbit Hole. Most recently she appeared in Paddington, Before I Go to Sleep and Grace of Monaco.
Wonder Woman is scheduled to be released on June 23, 2017.
