The Multiverse is Opening Up.
Here we go. The big story arc of Season 2 and what every fan of this show and DC Comics in general has been waiting for. Jay Garrick, the Flash from Earth 2 has been brought to our world thanks to the wormhole brought about at the end of last season and now has to team up with Barry Allen to capture his enemies and figure out the solution to the world breaching.
With a whole new area that has never been discussed or explored in any other show or superhero movie, the multiverse has a ton of trail and error to go through on The Flash and so far, we’re only scratching the surface of it. It’s exciting to see a show try something this different and really take risks and go through with this idea. This week, Jay Garrick’s main enemy Zoom (same as our Zoom?) is trying to kill Barry Allen, as well as every speedster, by hiring another metahuman called the Sand Demon and the results are fun and another solid episode.
Jay Garrick is a great addition to the show and it is fun to see him take the role of Professor Wells, where he has to teach the group and Barry different things-except, of course, he’s a good guy. His relationship with the group develops naturally as, at first, they do not think they need him. Barry doesn’t trust him after what happened with Wells and this story point is done very well. It’s further development for him and really helps to remind us how relatable Barry is.
Another fantastic element added this week is Patty Spivot, a spunky police officer hell-bent on becoming Detective West’s new partner. Patty is WONDERFUL and she’s a blast to watch, adding some well needed comedy and more emotion. Shantel VanSanten plays her so well and I really like what she’s bringing to the table. Finally, a slightly comedic side character that doesn’t suck!
Cisco is also finding more of his power, which is fine but he’s still kind of annoying. Otherwise, this is another very good episode. There are new things to explore and new characters that are adding to what makes the show great rather than taking away from it. The science is also on point (lighting turns sand into glass) and this is a show that celebrates being a sci-fi superhero show. Lucky for us, it’s top notch at that.
Grade: B+
FUN NOTES (SPOILERS):
-Jay Garrick as the Flash! It was so awesome to see him fight in the helmet against the Sand Demon with Barry. That ruled! (“Flash?” “Coming!”)
-The Sand Demon is cool, but I hope we still get to see old favs like Captain Cold and the Trickster again.
– The Arrow reference was a nice touch. Really makes the shows feel more lively.
-“Just because it’s a different life doesn’t mean it’s a worse one”-Dr. Snow is growing on me.
-52 Breaches! YES! This season’s gonna be awesome.
-Okay, what is up with Dr. Wells? Was that another Earth? The Future? I need to know!
