Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick, Review by Ashley Menzel

Anna Kendrick, most famous for her big screen roles in films like Pitch Perfect, Camp, Into the Woods, Up in the Air, and much more has written her first book. Scrappy Little Nobody gives us an inside look into the mind and life of a truly strange and fascinatingly bizarre person. Anna spends a good portion of the book giving us insight into different moments in her life. We get stories about her work on films and her rise to fame with acting in New York plays and shows.

Perhaps the most interesting part of Scrappy Little Nobody is that we come out with the reassurance that we are not alone in our craziness. Anna doesn’t hide much in this book. She openly criticizes herself, her lack of motivation when overwhelmed, and her completely sane rationalization of avoiding human interaction. Her sagas of dating are so outrageously universal; we must stop, grab a carton of Ben and Jerry’s, and commiserate with her over some of her past relationships.

Is Scrappy Little Nobody an award-winning book? No (sorry, Anna), but it certainly is a fun, quick read with relatable stories making us believe in People’s Celebrities Are Just Like Us feature. The book is certainly not a PG rated, and it isn’t a cutesy little book about a perfect role model. It is the book of a real life, loud and opinionated, slightly smaller in stature, woman.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Scrappy Little Nobody. I cried at, laughed at, scoffed at, and appreciated the honesty Anna Kenrick has given in this book. I’ll read your insane rantings anytime!
