Just released about an hour ago from Disney, Marvel, LucasFilm, DreamWorks, and Pixar is their entire film lineup for 2016. This year, it looks like Walt Disney Studios is going to kill it at the Box Office once again. There are several highly anticipated releases as well as the first Star Wars spin-off film, Rogue One. The Finest Hours
A heroic action-thriller, The Finest Hours is the remarkable true story of the most daring rescue mission in the history of the Coast Guard.
The Finest Hours is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Chris Pine, Holliday Grainger, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, and Eric Bana. It is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. The Finest Hours storms in the US theaters on January 29th, 2016 in Digital 3D, RealD 3D and IMAX 3D.
Zootopia
Zootopia is Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 55th animated feature. The film features voices of Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. The modern metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other, comprised of habitat neighborhoods like a ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown. It is the melting pot where animals from every environment live together. The film is directed by Bryan Howard who previously directed Tangled and Bolt, and Rich Moore who directed Wreck it Ralph and The Simpsons. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ comedy-adventure Zootopia opens in theaters on March 4th 2016.
The Jungle Book
The Jungle Book is an all new live action epic adventure about Mowgli played by newcomer Neel Sethi, a man cub raised in the jungle by a family of wolves, who embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery where he is forced to abandon the only home he has ever known. The all-star cast includes Oscar winner Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong’o and Christopher Walken as well as Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, and Giancarlo Esposito. The film is directed by Jon Favreau and based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories. The wild adventure swings into theaters in 3D on April 15th 2016.
Captain America: Civil War
Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability. Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd and Frank Grillo, with William Hurt and Daniel Bruhl. Captain America: Civil War opens and US theaters on May 6th 2016.
Alice Through the Looking Glass
Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass is an all new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter. The film features Johnny Depp, Martin Sheen, Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman, Anne Hathaway, Timothy Spall, Helena Bonham Carter, and Mia Wasikowska comes into theaters on May 27th 2016 and Digital 3D, RealD 3D and IMAX 3D.
Finding Dory
Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory reunites everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory with her friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past. Finding Dory has our favorite voice actors back with Andrew Stanton as director. The voices featured are Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Ed O’Neill, Kaitlin Olson, Ty Burrell, Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton. Finding Dory comes to the theaters June 17th, 2016
THE BFG
The talents of the world’s greatest storytellers Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg finally unit to bring Dahl’s beloved classic The BFG to life. Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s The BFG tells the imaginary story of a young girl and the giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. The film stars Mark Rylance, Ruby Barnhill, Penelope Wilton, Jermaine Clement, Rebecca Hall, Rafe Paul and Bill Hader. The film is set to release July 1st 2016, which marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth.
Pete’s Dragon
A reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film, Pete’s Dragon is the adventure of an orphan boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who also happens to be a dragon. Pete’s Dragon stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban, Ooana Laurence, Oakes Fegley, and Robert Redford. The film is set to release on August 12th 2016.
Queen of Katwe
Queen of Katwe is the colorful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of real-world Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess and as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion. Directed by Mira Nair from a screenplay by William Wheeler and the book by Tim Crothers. It stars David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong’o as well as newcomer Madina Nalwanga. The film is set to release in theaters in fall of 2016.
Doctor Strange
Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of neurosurgeon Dr. Steven Strange who after a horrific car accident discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. The cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, with Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton. The film opens in US theaters November 4th 2016.
Moana
Moana, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new big screen adventure is about a spirited teenager, who with help from a demigod Maui, sets out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder. The film is directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The film features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho . The film is set to release November 23rd 2016.
Rogue One
Lucas Films’ Rogue One which takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope tells the story of resistance fighters who unit to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. The cast includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed. Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards. The film is slated for a December 16th, 2016 release date.
The Light Between Oceans
DreamWorks Pictures’ The Light Between Oceans is a heartbreaking drama about fate, love, and moral dilemmas and the lengths to which one couple will go to see their dreams realized. The film stars Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Rachel Weisz, Bryan Brown and Jack Thompson. The film is set to release in 2016 but a specific date has not yet been announced.
