“Ready For My Close Up” – Lynn Lowry is to Die For!

Greetings from the Underground!

Ready For My Close Up is a short film starring Lynn Lowry and directed by Jason Reed. In this horror comedy we are introduced to Nurse Rose who is in charge of taking care of fading B-Movie actress Megs Topplewaite. Today plans change and she is replaced by Nurse Becca. Nurse Becca’s enters the Topplewaite home with an ulterior motive. Once inside she soon discovers the real-life horrors waiting for her.

Lynn Lowry is fantastic in the role of Megs Topplewaite. She has an infectious energy about her that will have you grinning from ear to ear. Her Topplewaite is one part Norma Desmond from Sunset Boulevard and one part Mrs. Vorhees from Friday the 13th, equating to all kinds of fun. My favorite moments are when she breaks the fourth wall with a devilish grin. I loved every second she was on screen. The rest of the cast put in solid performances as well. Charlotte Mounter’s Nurse Becca was a great counter-character to Topplewaite, and Mounter manages to make you feel some sympathy for her though you know she is there for a nefarious purpose.

Ready for My Close Up

The script from Michael Haberfelner and Lynn Lowry gives us a sharp satirical look at the B-movies of the past. From the inappropriate portrayal of minorities to the sexualization of women, all are parody through the Topplewaite character. There are also a number of great twists, and what horror comedy would be complete without some blood thrown in for good measure? I fell in love with this movie and it is definitely one that deserves repeat viewing. I highly recommend this film to all fans of not just horror but just fans of films in general. Ready for My Close Up is currently showing on the festival circuit.
